WHAT IS EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGY?

Exercise Physiology is the study of the science and physiological response of the body to exercise.  Different types of exercise and intensities have different physiological effects.

We all know that exercise is essential for well-being and an overall healthy life, but Exercise Physiology goes one step further than this. We use exercise as medicine, and just the same way that medicine requires a specific dosage to be effective, so does exercise - taking into consideration the modality of exercise (e.g. Aerobic vs resistance), the duration, frequency and intensity of exercise. Exercise Physiology applies these evidence-based principles when treating specific diseases.

An Exercise Physiologist will conduct a thorough assessment to get a proper understanding of your condition and your limitations to provide a safe and individualised exercise program. Overall, an Exercise Physiologist is a specialist in exercise prescription. Whether you have a chronic condition and would like an exercise program that is safe and keeps you healthy, or are looking for a specific exercise rehabilitation program, an Exercise Physiologist is for you.
