MOTIVATED MICK
Few people work as hard as Michael, after having surgery to remove a meningioma (brain tumor) from the very delicate area of the brain stem he was left with left sided weakness, impaired mobility and balance as well as dysregulation of autonomic functions such as Blood pressure. 3 years on Michael had lost confidence to mobilize outdoors, was having frequent falls and struggling to do simple functions such as get out from a low or soft chair.
In the last 6 months Chronic Care Exercise Physiology have been working on his strength, balance and walking capacity. Michael would see us at the clinic where we would work on specific balance and gait (walking) exercises to correct his gait quality and retrain his brain to move his legs correctly. We also progressed to his local gym and set up an exercise program focusing on his strength and aerobic fitness which he now completes on his own 2 -3 days per week!!
He has improved greatly and this has translated to functional improvements in using stairs at home, being able to walk longer distances outdoors with his family and improved the quality of his walking. Well done Mick!! It’s only upward and forward from here.
